BrandonBits

Boy, I have been one busy fella. On the social front, there was a convention, large bowling event, and the occasional party and get-together I attended. Aside from all that, I’ve also been burying myself in projects.

My eighth book, Snapshot Existence, is nearing completion. Currently, I’m having a co-creator read the latest draft, give me his input, do some character design, and provide the cover art (and I can’t thank him enough). Therefore, I’m considering the project out of my hands for the time being. Once he’s finished doing his thing, I’ll make adjustments and publish.

With Snapshot Existence currently in limbo, I’ve already begun writing my ninth book, Hornworm, which is going to be quite a strange beast, being both a horror anthology and linear drama. Considering the progress I’ve made, I anticipate finishing the rough draft in about a month or so.

While working on books eight and nine, I’m also doing research for my tenth book, This Dinosaur Future I Dreamed, of which I already have an outline and a few pages that were written a couple years ago. I’m very excited about this book, which was inspired by a series of dreams I had, and have been wanting to focus on it for quite some time.

Apart from writing, I’ve also been throwing my web series into the mix that features my own original music.

BrandonBits

I'm beginning to feel like my old self again. Focusing on the Jesse Boomer trilogy took a lot out of me. Pouring so much into the trilogy left me feeling burnt out on writing. I had to take a break from everything for a while, then slowly get back into being creative by working on something completely different. That something turned out to be my web series, BrandonBits. While I originally figured I'd use the series to just talk about my writing or share footage of places I've visited, keeping things rather sedate and professional in an effort to boost sales by presenting a refined image, I decided to instead tap back into my more unhinged side and add some flavor to the series by simply doing what I want, heh, just like old times. Not putting restrictions on myself has really helped me unlock my creativity again and embrace my eccentricities.

Plenty of times I regretted not going to college for writing instead of digital media. Just recently I've come to terms with my choices. Having been told I possess what cannot be taught in any writing classes, and using the digital media skills I had to learn, I feel it's all coming together to ensure a successful future. Of course, that future might be a long way off, but I refuse to settle. Roadblocks may discourage me for a time, but I always bounce back with a new scheme or project to immerse myself in and aid in reaching more readers.

Also, thank you very much to the readers and friends I have that encourage me to keep at it—especially one friend in particular, whose support of all my creative endeavors over the past six months has been incomparable (you know who you are). In this visual world of creatives, memes, pictures of food and material things, many writers tend to get lost in the shuffle (I often feel like one of them); however, every fan and friend counts in making me feel like less of a complete unknown.
Anyway, now that I have four episodes of the series done, and footage already shot for episodes five and six, it's about time I refocused my attention on finishing the next book, Snapshot Existence.

BrandonBits: Jesse's Legacy Now Available

I feel I have come to the end of a 10-year journey. Jesse's Legacy, the final book in the Jesse Boomer trilogy, is finished and now available on Amazon in digital and paperback form.

Back in 2008 I began writing my first book, Jesse's Conveyance. It was a long process that wasn't initially over until 2011 (of course, considering all the times I revised the book, I wasn't truly done with it until last year). While pleased with the result, the book was not what I originally envisioned. I had wanted it to be a book that started out as a general fiction story that morphed into a horror one. Although, the more I wrote, the more a switch into horror didn't seem appropriate. Still, through the years I couldn't stop thinking of the book that might have been. This led me to eventually turn the book into the first of a trilogy in which the second book (Jesse's Influence) could bridge the gap between the two genres, offering a smooth transition into horror territory.

With the completion of Jesse's Legacy, I feel the story I originally envisioned has been written, for the most part; I did have some more outlandish ideas in mind that are better suited for an entirely different story. While there's too many books floating around in my head to allow me to truly rest easy, I can at least breathe a sigh of relief knowing that the saga of Jesse Boomer is over and I can move on to other things. Sure, never say never, but I'm very tempted to proclaim I'll never write another book series. While I'm very glad I wrote the trilogy, for over two years it prevented me from working on other projects I've been anxious to tackle, and now I'm feeling pretty burnt out.

Consequently, as badly as I want to dive right in to the next book, I feel in need of a short break. That being said, I'm confident this will end up being my most productive year.
