BrandonBits: Hornworm and Update
As can be gleaned from recent posts, I've kept myself extremely busy during the ongoing pandemic. Most notably, I finished and published Hornworm (available in digital and paperback form):
It is my ninth and probably most personal book. While it is considered a work of fiction, there are plenty of instances in which firsthand real-life experiences provided inspiration. Furthermore, the book is a bit different from traditional ones, in that it combines a linear coming-of-age drama with an anthology of short horror stories. As the main character grows up in a developing neighborhood during the '90s, he experiences feelings associated with isolation, utilizing his free time, encounters, and emotions as creative inspiration to write. As he matures through the years, so does his writing technique.
Writing projects aside, I've also been heavily focused on videography. Apart from completing a plethora of episodes for my web series, BrandonBits (of which will be concluding soon), I dusted off an old book project of mine, turning it into a short film; said book was comprised of family photos captioned in a way that gave everything a horrific (and comical) edge and completed whilst I was still a child. The resulting film can be viewed here:
On top of aforementioned video projects, I have three feature-length films in the works, all of which I have most of the footage for, but I still need to piece them together and compose the music. I'll divulge the details of these projects at a later date.
So, there's been many accomplishments, as I've made the best out of this difficult situation we're in, and plenty of things remain on the horizon.
(I'd be a lot farther along with my video projects; however, the new MacBook I purchased directly from Apple for $2k in February 2018 suddenly stopped working this last Thanksgiving and Apple is not being lenient with the cost of repairs, despite one of their own techs being dumbfounded as to why the hard drive would stop working, considering the fact I only used the machine a few hours per week. So, yeah, I had to wait a while before plunking down $500 to get them to fix their own faulty equipment. Needless to say, I am now wary of Apple products, very critical of their policies, and severely judge the collective character of the company.)
